River Riders Kayaking Program

River Riders is a new kayaking program at Greenwell State Park offering kayak rentals, lessons, and guided trips. The program is a fully accessible and inclusive water program providing instructional and recreational opportunities for everyone in the Southern Maryland Area.

Lessons, rentals, trips, and kayak camp are open to people of all abilities. The program has an accessible (ADA-compliant) kayak and canoe launch/floating dock. It's wheelchair accessible and open to the public during regular park hours (sunrise to sunset).

Kayak Lessons
Lessons are offered every Saturday during the kayaking season. Reservations are required. Please call 301-373-9775. Minimum age for kayak lessons is 7 years old.

Recreational kayaking lessons cover paddling techniques, safety, and much more. All lessons include time for practice and fun and games. When all participants feel comfortable, short field trips will be added. Lessons run 1-1/2 hours.


Kayak Trips
Interpretation is a part of all trips, providing an opportunity to learn more about the history, nature, and beauty of the Patuxent River. Kayak trips vary with the interests of the group but generally will be three-to-four hours long.

Reservations are required for all kayak trips. Minimum 4 participants needed. You may also reserve a trip which will be dependent upon the availability of a tour guide. Please call 301-373-9775.

Minimum age for single kayak on guided trip is 13 years old. Minimum age to attend trip as passenger is 5 years old.
