Where Do I Drop Off / Pick Up My Child?
Camp Greenwell campers, including those campers enrolled in Extended Care, should be dropped off and picked up at Clubhouse 2 (near the Quarter Creek Pavilion).

PLEASE observe the 10 mph speed limit in the park for everyone’s safety!

What Does My Child Need to Bring?
Bagged lunch
Refillable water bottle
Water shoes (in addition to regular shoes/sneakers)
At least one change of clothes
Bathing suit
Sunscreen
Bug spray
Hat
No Open-Toed Shoes! (Campers must wear closed-toe shoes and may bring more than one pair. Crocs are highly recommended by our counselors. Flip flops are not allowed.)

What Will My Child's Day Look Like?
Upon arrival, campers should find an empty cubby inside the Clubhouse and stow their backpack. We meet every morning to talk about what activities we are doing and how things went the day before. After our meeting, we begin our activities.

Lunch is eaten under the pavilion. After lunch we relax for a while and hang out with each other. The afternoon holds more activities and some swim or sprinkler time.

We have snacks in the afternoon, usually popcorn or goldfish crackers. We meet again to wrap up the day and look forward to the next day. Any notes that need to go to parents are handed out at this time.

What Will My Child's Week Look Like?
Archery is on Tuesday, "Away Day" (exploring the park) is on Wednesday; Kayaking is on Thursday; and every Friday is "TieDye FriDye!"  The week includes nature hikes, a visit to the barn, and lots of sprinkler time. We swim in the shallow portion of the river (very close to shore), supervised by a lifeguard.

What Do Campers Do at Extended Care?
Campers may have some free time if they like but the counselor in charge will also be available to play games or do a short activity. We try to keep the campers engaged but not so engrossed that they do not want to leave when parents arrive!

Greenwell Foundation Hot Weather Policy

The Greenwell Foundation restricts program activities during extreme hot weather. This is for the safety of all participants, volunteers, staff and horses.

When the Heat Index, as determined by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), reaches 100 degrees, Greenwell adjusts the schedule of the following activities:

  • Horseback Riding lessons during Horse Camp are limited to 30 minutes.
  • Horseback Riding lessons during afternoon and evening hours are limited to 30 minutes.
  • Kayaking during Kayak Camp is limited to the morning hours.
  • Outdoor Play during all camps is limited to the morning hours.

When the NOAA issues a Heat Advisory, Greenwell restricts the following activities:

  • Horseback Riding lessons during Horse Camp are cancelled and replaced with barn lessons.
  • Horseback Riding lessons during afternoon and evening hours are cancelled and replaced with barn lessons.
  • Kayaking during Kayak Camp is limited to the morning hours.
  • Outdoor play during all camps is limited to the morning hours.
  • Hiking is cancelled.
  • Campers may be moved to indoor, air-conditioned locations during afternoon hours.

NOAA's heat alert procedures are based mainly on Heat Index Values. The "Heat Index," sometimes referred to as the "apparent temperature" and given in degrees Fahrenheit, is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is added to the actual air temperature.

Excessive Heat Warning:
Issued within 12 hours of the onset of the following criteria: heat index of at least 105°F for more than 3 hours per day for 2 consecutive days, or heat index more than 115°F for any period of time.

Excessive Heat Warning/Advisory: The warning is used for conditions posing a threat to life or property. An advisory is for less serious conditions that cause significant discomfort or inconvenience and, if caution is not taken, could lead to a threat to life and/or property.

The NOAA issues Heat Warnings and Advisories when an excessive heat event is occurring, is imminent, or has a very high probability of occurrence.
