Volunteers

All of the programs and activities at Greenwell are possible thanks to the efforts and dedication of many volunteers. Many opportunities exist, from working in the barn to assisting with the therapeutic riding program and helping with camps. Volunteers also maintain the trails and tend the gardens. Whether it’s for a few hours a week or many hours a month, volunteers are the heart of Greenwell, donating their time, energy, and expertise in many ways.

Volunteer Junior Counselors
Volunteer Junior Counselors are an integral part of camp, assisting the paid counselors preparing activities and crafts, participating in archery, kayaking, hiking, games, and cleaning up. Volunteer Junior Counselors are held to a higher standard than campers and are not considered participants in camp. Volunteer Junior Counselors receive formal training and may spend one week or up to nine weeks at summer camp.

There is a one-time fee of $200.00 for the training required for this program. Extended care before and/or after camp is available for a fee.

For Summer 2010, Volunteer Junior Counselors must be 14 years old by June 1, 2010.

Park Hosts
Greenwell has a park host program for people who would like to volunteer at least 20 hours or more per week in exchange for an RV site. The site offers full-service hook-up including water, sewer and electric. The minimum length of stay is one month; longer stays are welcome.

Adopt-a-Trail
Families, businesses, school groups and scout troops - as well as individuals - can make a real difference at Greenwell by adopting a trail. Help maintain our 10 miles of trails by keeping them clear of debris, removing dead wood, trimming branches, and cutting back encroaching growth. If your group is looking for a project they can call their own, consider adopting a trail at Greenwell.

Therapeutic Riding Program and Barn Volunteers
Volunteers serve as side walkers and leaders in Greenwell's Therapeutic Riding Program. No experience with horses is necessary; training is provided. Volunteers are also needed to muck stalls, clean pastures, and tack and groom horses.

Volunteer Mounted Patrol & Volunteer Rangers
Patrol the park on your own mount to provide security and to help identify maintenance and safety concerns. Members of the Volunteer Mounted Patrol also help with special events held at the park. The Volunteer Mounted Patrol program requires 40 hours of volunteer time to enroll, 100 hours of volunteer time commitment annually, attendance at annual Volunteer Ranger Training, and assessment/certification of horse and rider.
