River Riders is an accessible and inclusive kayaking program providing instructional and recreational opportunities for everyone in the Southern Maryland Area. River Riders offers lessons, summer camps for kids, and guided trips.
Lessons, guided trips, and kayak camp are open to people of all abilities. Greenwell has a wheelchair-accessible (ADA-compliant) floating kayak and canoe launch. The launch is open to the public during regular park hours (sunrise to sunset). River Riders is in session from April 1 through October.
Kayak Lessons
Lessons are offered throughout the kayaking season. Recreational kayaking lessons cover paddling techniques, safety information, non-skirted wet exits, body posture and technique improvement, strokes, and much more.
All lessons include kayaks, personal flotation devices, and all other necessary equipment, as well as time for practice and fun and games. When all participants feel comfortable, short field trips will be added.
Lessons run 1-1/2 hours. Minimum age for kayak lessons is 7 years old. Reservations are required. Please call 301-373-9775. See price list below.
2010 Rates:
Guided Kayak Trips: $45.00 ($35.00 w/ your own boat; $80.00 tandem kayak with two adults; $60 tandem kayak with one adult and one child up to age 12)
Group Lessons: $35.00 per person (minimum four people required)
Individual Lessons: $45.00 per person
Kayak Classes through the College of Southern Maryland: Fall Session: Sept. 7, 13, 20 & 27 (6pm - 8pm)
